I admit, I’ve been stuck in a food/mood rut (too much baked goods and carbs), and I need a good kick start to re-boot my body and break these habits. I’m excited to begin a 3-day juice fast tomorrow!
Spring is a great time to shake things up with cleansing or fasting for a short period of time. It will clean your body by giving it a break from rich and complicated foods. Cleansing means paring down your food to just simple fruits and vegetables, lots of water, whole grains and minimal protein. Fasting means limiting most foods and drinking lots of water, fresh vegetable and fruit juices, teas and soups. I usually do my 5-7 day Whole Foods Spring Detox and Cleanse (the 4th product in my Healthy Life Series), but this year I’m trying something different and doing a 3-day fast! I’m following Dr. Oz 3-day Detox/Cleanse with a few minor alterations. It’s only 3 days! How hard could this be?
I went to Whole Foods and bought all the items that are on the shopping list so I’m good to go with my juices. No need for a fancy juicer, I plan to make them in a regular ole blender. I’ll let you know how they come out! My husband is being a good sport and participating with me for breakfast and dinner anyway, that way I won’t have to cook a separate dinner for him. (Lunchtime he’s on his own at work so he can eat whatever he wants to his heart’s content!)
Cleansing or fasting helps eliminate excess fat that may have crept on during the winter, re-energizes your adrenal system, builds up your immune system and revitalizes your entire digestive system including the liver, small intestine and large intestine. Making sure your entire digestive system is clean and working properly is key to maintaining good health. We are exposed to so many toxins from the food supply, environment and internal stress that it is essential to help your body get rid of those toxins.
Without much energy going towards digestion, more energy is available to the rest of your body and mind. Cleansing and fasting can sharpen your concentration, help you gain insight and promote spiritual awareness. It can also lead to improved immune function, clear up congestion and allergies and improve digestion.
I’m looking to make a shift in my eating habits and this is exactly what I need to make that happen. I want to feel lighter and reduce that mid section bloating and “fluff’ weight that those added sugars in the diet can cause.
