Spring Detox-Day 1-Dandelions for Breakfast?

100_1147We have a great group of detoxers committed to starting their spring cleanse this weekend. Here’s a photo of some of us from the live detox class.  Congratulations to you all for taking this step to do some internal spring cleaning! In this spring cleanse we are particularly focusing on cleansing the two organs, the liver and the gallbladder, that according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, are the rulers over spring.

All the foods we are incorporating into this detox are spring foods, that are in season right now and that promote healthy liver/gallbladder cleansing. For instance, one in particular is dandelion greens. It is a potent liver detoxifier. Did you know that they are very high in vitamins and minerals and contain 15% protein? Who would of thunk it! A green that has protein in it. Here’s a recipe for breakfast using dandelion greens in your omelette that I made up this morning. Dee-licious!

Vegetable Frittata
Ingredients:
4 eggs
Water
Olive oil
A little ghee
Onions (chopped)
Red peppers (chopped)
Dandelion greens (cut up in pieces)
Mushrooms (chopped)
Broccoli (chopped)
Sea salt, fresh ground black pepper

Directions: Saute the vegetables in olive oil in a frying pan. (I add a smidgeon of ghee for flavor). Beat eggs separately w/a little water and then pour over sautéed cooked veggies. Cook on high heat pulling edges of cooked egg away from sides of pan w/spatula so to make sure most of egg gets cooked. Season w/salt and pepper. The center of egg will still be a little runny. Turn oven on broil and stick whole frying pan under broiler for no more than 1 or 2 minutes. Keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn. Egg will cook thru, puff up and brown up a bit. You’re done! Serve w/side of fruit or salad.

While we are cleaning out our bodies in this detox don’t forget to clean your heart. Throw away negative thoughts and habits you’ve been harboring that no longer serve you. A clean heart will allow you to receive all the good that awaits you each and every day. This would be a good week to start meditation. If you already meditate-good for you. If not, here’s a simple meditation practice that can get you started. Daily OM Meditations

  1. I bot artichokes. Jins-can you post that artichoke recipe you talked about in the class? How is everyone doing on the detox? I saw Itzel yesterday at Hunter College wellness fair-she looked cleared out 🙂 Way to go Itzel!

    • Hi Joanne,

It was great to see you yesterday! This is day 4 for me, and I’m feeling great. I really thought I’d miss the sweet-refined stuff, but it’s mostly the salt I’m missing. I tried kale for the first time today-I loved it! 🙂

      • Great seeing you too Itzel. You definitely had that “detox glow” going on 🙂 Glad you love the kale!! I found the anwer to my sweet cravings-Organic DATES!! They are so creamy, gooey soft texture and if I’m craving sweets I can eat 1-3 of them and I am completely satisfied!! They satisfy me like a Godiva chocolate truffle but are much healthier! I will be keeping dates in my house from here on out and hope to kick the sugar habit for good.

  2. Hi Joanne,

Day three for me. going well. I’m staying with the green vegetables, and no salt, sugar, dairy, glutens or meat, other than a little chicken. Feel a bit better, but still have small migraines. Guess it’s the detox. michael

    • Good for you Michael. Are you off of caffeine? You can get headaches from caffeine withdrawal. Drink alot of water that will help w/headaches.

    Hi Everyone!
I hope I’m blogging in the right place….Sorry to be out of touch! I’ve had house guests so I haven’t had a spare minute to check in with everyone…. But I took off work today to catch-up. Soooooo about the detox, I love it! So far it feels much easier to me than the Fall one. I am realizing that I have been eating pretty healthy, so I feel good about that!! I haven’t had to change too much, just needed to eliminate some things which isn’t easy — I slipped-up this weekend but other than that I feel good! Thanks Joanne!!

  4. Still looking for those artichoke recipes-anyone got one? I’m feeling great being off the sugar I have to say, and can’t believe I’ve gone this long w/o sweets (other than my organic dates).

Wanted to let you detoxers know that I’m leaving town tomorrow for a much needed rest/relax weekend in Maine (life in the slow lane) for my niece’s graduation so I will be out of touch-not bringing the laptop 🙂

So much to say…will write a longer blog encapsulating my whole detox experience (had some little epiphanies!) Would love to hear how it went or is going for you all. xo Joanne

  5. This is from Susanna:

“I wanted to let you know that I feel absolutely wonderful after the detox. I have decided to continue eating in the detox fashion. I feel strong, energetic, and good about what I am putting in my body! Thanks so much! Namaste!

    Sincerely,

    Susanna”
